Partial Lunar eclipse turned out to be a yet another incredible event that ignited Loyola Astro Club to stream the event in Youtube and Instagram on January 10, 2020. Eclipse was witnessed from 10:30 PM to 12.30 AM from the terrace of Jubilee Building located in Loyola College, Chennai. Around 25 students took part in the event and enjoyed having a look at the partial shadow of earth on then moon.
One of the nature’s incredible events is lunar eclipse, and one of its aspects is partial lunar eclipse. This event occurred on July 17, 2019. Loyola Astro club intended to record the event. Everything was set to record the event but due to another nature’s mystery, that is clouds, we had a trouble to track the motion of the moon. After a point of time the sky started to open up and we were able to get some good photographs of the event.
Ten to fifteen students joined with us to witness the event. The eclipse started at 1.31 A.M. and lasted till 4.30 A.M and was also visible in Australia, Europe, Africa, South America and Asia. It happened to be an another eclipse event recorded by LAC.
Progress needs to be there when we do things and in the same notion to leap a step ahead, Loyola Astro Club planned to live telecast the most incredible event of the year 2018 that is “Copper Moon-2018”. This one is a rare event in astronomical field because, Copper Moon is a combination of Blue Moon and Super Moon, where Blue Moon is when two full moons happen in the same calendar month and in addition it Super Moon happens when the moon’s perigee is closest to the Earth’s orbit.
We recorded and streamed this event live on You tube from Kilpauk. People in and around the locality and students got themselves driven away by the tremendous beauty of the moon on that particular day. Eventually our first initiative turned out to be a successful one.
