MMS 143 | dedicated portfolio for 2nd trimester by Rhyah Austrie S. Reyes
EXIF Data: ISO 100, f/3.5, 1/320s
Explanation of Settings
I chose a low ISO of 100 to make sure the image remains clean and free from any digital noise. Since I was shooting outdoors during the day, a shutter speed of 1/320s was necessary to manage the bright light. This allowed me to capture the cathedral with a balanced exposure to ensure that the white walls do not look too bright in the final photo.
Description
This photo shows the Antipolo Cathedral, a place that holds so much history and peace for Catholics. I chose to take this photo as the church is the heart of our city. Being there reminds me that happiness is found in places where we feel a sense of belonging. So, I framed it widely to show how the building reaches toward the sky, which serves as a silent witness to our prayers.
EXIF Data: ISO 100, f/3.7, 1/80s
Explanation of Settings
I kept my ISO at 100 to maintain the highest image quality possible. I used a shutter speed of 1/80s since I wanted every line and texture of the bricks to be sharp. When capturing patterns, everything needed to be in focus so the viewer can see the rhythm of the shapes without any blur, to make the repetition more effective.
Description
In this shot, the repeating white beams meet the red brick pillar in a way that feels organized. I chose this photo as I am a fan of minimalism, and these geometric lines reflect that interest. It reminded me that even in everyday structures, there is a beauty that can be found if we just take the time to look. It represents how small and repeating parts come together to build something strong and meaningful.
EXIF Data: ISO 100, f/3.6, 1/800s
Explanation of Settings
I used a fast shutter speed of 1/800s to underexpose my subject. By doing this, the camera does not capture the details of the person and only their shape. This allowed the light from the sky to be the main focus while turning the subject into a black silhouette that stands out perfectly.
Description
This is a side profile of my boyfriend taken during the blue hour in Antipolo City. I chose this as the outline of his face is sharp against the colors of the sunset. To me, this photo is about contentment and valuing the time we spend with the people we love. Even without seeing his face, you can feel the peace of the moment, giving us the perspective on how happiness is found in these silent and artistic pauses in our lives.
EXIF Data: ISO 400, f/4.0, 1/30s
Explanation of Settings
Since it was dark, I increased the ISO to 400 to help the camera capture the distant city lights clearly. I used a shutter speed of 1/30s to let enough light into the lens without making the image look too shaky. This combination allowed me to show the brightness of the city while keeping the night sky dark and moody.
Description
This photo shows the overlooking view of the city lights from Cafe Agusta in Antipolo City. I chose to take this photo as I have always loved looking at the city from a distance. It looks like thousands of tiny stars glowing on the ground. This view makes me feel alive and optimistic, which reminds me that even when the world feels dark, there is always light happening somewhere down there.
EXIF Data: ISO 100, f/7.7, 1/15s
Explanation of Settings
I used a slow shutter speed of 1/15s to intentionally create a motion blur effect. This allowed the camera to record the path of the moving motorbike as a blur while the objects that are standing still stay sharp. I used an aperture of f/7.7 to balance the light so the photo would not be too bright from the slow shutter speed.
Description
This photo captures a motorbike passing by an ambulance around 5 p.m. I chose this shot as it shows our fast-paced city. This blur represents how life is a rollercoaster ride that is always moving. So, it is a reminder for all of us to cherish every moment because, just like this photo, the present passes by quickly.
