Parent - Mentor to 1082/10820
Mr. Schnurr is a vital part of the Lovejoy Robotics program. In spite of the many parents who do not fully understand VEX robotics, Mr. Schnurr has worked to bridge the VEX knowledge gap between the robotics students and their parents. In his free time, he hosts information nights so that all parents and students fully understand the season’s game and its rules. He even created an easy-to-understand presentation on basic tournament rules and Spin Up strategies for parents and students that was featured on the VEX Website. Mr. Schnurr is always encouraging ways parents can help their students at home. This has positively impacted our program as more parents are willing to help out where they can. At the Lab, Mr. Schnurr volunteers to stay long hours to supervise robotics students while they work on their robots. There he often takes the time to check up on the students and their progress, offering advice on how they can solve their problems using an engineering mindset. Mr. Schnurr now visits the middle school weekly on Wednesdays to mentor the middle school robotics program due to Coach Woods being hospitalized. As a VRC Head Referee, Mr. Schnurr also devotes much of his time to help out at many competitions, even refereeing at the multiple robotics tournaments we have hosted at our school.
