Although we've seen the impact we've made with the robotics summer camp, our outreach at Leopard Friday and at Reading with the Leopards, the Lovejoy IRHS Chapter still has plenty more projects in its planning phase. Our end goal is striving to consistently promote and inspire STEM for our future generations. The projects mapped in the timeline are our service projects for 2022-2023, but we aim to keep these traditions alive for the upcoming years and hope to have a long lasting effect on our school and community.
As part of our outreach, IRHS members began representing the STEM program at the high school through a school tradition: Reading with the Leopards. During football season at our school, various student groups volunteer to go to the elementary schools and read a story to the students. After reading, we have the opportunity to share about our high school STEM classes in addition to our Robotics Program. Earlier this year, a group of IRHS members read to 3rd graders at Hart Elementary. We were able to demo a few robots and pass around engineering notebooks while the kids asked us questions.
The STEM Parent's Night Out is an upcoming activity our chapter is planning. Currently, the project is in its planning phase where we have an idea of what stations, location, and time is needed. A promotional poster has been made and we are awaiting official approval for the date and location. What is left is sending out forms for volunteers and for the parents to register their kids, and creating the detailed plans for the various activities. Unfortunately, it was temporarily put on hold so that the IRHS members can focus on the creation of this website. Our chapter intends on having this project in late January or early February.
The annual STEM Festival held at Lovejoy High School is the time of the year to showcase all STEM projects, activities, programs, and achievements from the students. Each year, members from 1082 has always been involved with every step of the process for making STEM Fest enjoyable for all.
Since Coach Woods was diagnosed with cancer, the Lovejoy's middle school robotics program has had to adapt to a new schedule as the district looks for a long-term substitute for Coach Woods. Due to this, the middle school has had to cancel the majority of their robotics tournaments. We have decided to host a robotics tournament for the middle schoolers during the 2023 STEM Festival so that the middle schoolers can have another opportunity to compete. We will also be highlighting the elementary and middle schools' STEM education and achievements at the festival.
The CAD station in which kids are getting a chance to create and 3-D model in TinkerCAD.
The engineering notebook station where kids can create their own entries and parents can look at student's engineering notebook.
VEX GO Fields for younger kids to interact and drive around bots.
