Conquest
Overview
The conquest system centres around factions conquering territories on the map.
What's the goal? That's really up to you! Whether it's becoming the richest faction, owning the most land on the map or just having some fun, you can decide on your goals and then take steps to achieve them when you understand what conquest actually is. To gain that understanding, please read the rest of this website!
If you're new to conquest, it is quite difficult to digest so much information. We recommend you read this page, but don't worry too much about remembering stuff - you'll learn it over time. There is a brief guide at the end of this page tailored towards new factions, so if you're planning on getting into the system with your faction, please read that as well.
The Basics
The map is split up into a large number of territories.
You can view them using /t list on the server, or visually on the conquest map: https://lotrmc.net/map
Each territory can either be (1) owned by a faction or (2) unclaimed.
Each owned territory will have a steward - this is a player in the faction that owns the territory. The steward will:
Own (or co-own) the siege base which is used to claim the territory.
Claim the territory's weekly resources.
Directly deal with any sieges or wars declared on the territory.
Territories can change hands peacefully or violently. For example:
You could strike up an informal deal and pay coins to another player in exchange for a territory.
You could alternatively declare and win a siege on that territory in order to take it.
Adjacency
Adjacent means 'next to'.Every faction that owns territories will have a home territory - this is one of their territories.
Two territories are adjacent if they are geographically next to each other - there are some exceptions, so it's recommended to confirm if two territories are adjacent by using /adj <territory> for one of the territories, and seeing if the second is in the list displayed by the command. The same command can be run in the Discord #server-chat channel, using .adj
A territory is connected to your home territory if you can link it up via adjacent territories to your home territory. To see if a territory is connected or not, use /tinfo <territory> - if the weekly resources are x2, it's the home territory. If they are x1, it's connected. If they are x0, it's unconnected.
How to check what a faction's home territory is:
If you're on the server use /tfaction <faction> - the home territory is the one in light green.
If you're in Discord use .tfaction <faction> - the home territory is the one in capital letters.
The faction leader, or faction members with the permission SET_TERRITORY_HOME, can change the home territory using /t home:
You can only change your home territory once every 24 hours.
Changing it costs 1,000 coins.
You can only change your home territory to a territory which is adjacent to your current one - this means it may take multiple changes and therefore multiple days to move a home territory across the map.
Levels
Territories can have a Level of 1, 2 or 3.
The default is 1 and this doesn't change anything.
Higher levels provide more resources.
To upgrade a territory from Level 1 to Level 2:
Your faction must have held the territory for at least 2 weeks.
You must pay 5,000c.
To upgrade a territory from Level 2 to Level 3:
Your faction must have held the territory for at least 4 weeks.
You must pay 10,000c.
Use /t upgrade <territory> to upgrade a territory.
You can see a territory's current level using /tinfo <territory>, or by looking at the conquest map (https://lotrmc.net/map).
A territory's level is reset to 1 if either of these events happen:
You lose it to another faction, or it becomes unclaimed.
It becomes unconnected.
A territory's level is reduced by 1 if it hits 0% available resources in a raid.
Territory Resources
Territories provide varying weekly resources, which can include coins, ores and building blocks.
To see what resources a territory provides, use /tinfo <territory> or click on it on the conquest map (https://lotrmc.net/map).
Resources 'refresh' every Friday at 16:00 UTC. At this point territory stewards can collect their resources by right-clicking the resource chest in the siege base of any of their territories.
Resources do not stack over weeks, so you must collect them within that week or you will essentially miss out on that week's resources.
Each territory will have a resource multiplier, which is affected by two things: (1) their connected status and (2) their level:
Connected status:
Home territories have x2 resources.
Connected territories have x1 resources.
Unconnected territories have x0 resources.
Level:
Level 1 territories have x1 resources.
Level 2 territories have x1.5 resources.
Level 3 territories have x2 resources.
These multipliers stack.
A territory has a percentage of resources available, known as available resources.
Whenever a steward collects a territory's weekly resources, they'll get that percentage of its weekly resources, and then available resources for the next week will be set back to 100%.
Available resources can be decreased if you are raided.
Some territories have more attractive resources than others, and are therefore more contested. Claiming high-reward territories will increase the risk of being attacked, while claiming low-reward territories will have a lower risk because less players will desire them.
Naturally, stewarding any territory puts you at risk of being raided, so make sure you're prepared!
Capital Territories
Each default faction has a capital territory.
Capital territories are pre-set and try to follow lore.
There are only two things a capital territory affects:
Capital territories can only be upgraded by their lore owners.
Capital territories can always be raided to 0% available resources by members of their lore owners.
Don't confuse capital territories for home territories, which are explained in the Adjacency section of this website.
Use /fcapital <faction> to check a faction's capital territory.
Owning a Territory
To own a territory you need to own (or co-own) a siege base (also known as siegeable structure) in the territory.
For a base to be a siege base, it must comply with the siegeable structure regulations (SSR): https://sites.google.com/view/lotrsurvival-ssr
The SSR can be quite hard to understand at first, so if you need assistance in understanding them, or staff to check if your base is siegeable, you can ask staff while they are online on the server or in the #support channel in Discord.
If you are inactive (/activity <yourName>), anyone can apply for and claim your territories without a conflict, so if you need to go inactive for whatever reason it's advised to let someone else steward them on your behalf.
Applying for Territory
You can apply for a territory in a number of circumstances:
The territory is (1) unclaimed or (2) claimed by an inactive owner.
The territory is owned but unconnected to its owning faction's home territory.
The steward of the territory transfers it to you.
You want to change that territory's siege base or resource chest location.
To apply for a territory you must either (1) lead your faction or (2) have the APPLY_FOR_TERRITORY faction permission. Newly-created faction ranks have this permission by default, but your current leader or past leaders may have denied it for your rank. In this case you can either contact your leader, join another faction or become the leader yourself.
To apply use /apply - the command will guide you through what you need to do. Read everything carefully so you do not make a mistake.
Senior staff will check your application within 72 hours, but are often far quicker. This is just a maximum response time.
If your application is accepted you must set an entrance for your siege base within 72 hours of it being accepted:
The entrance is a set of coordinates indicating where players can access the base.
To set a territory's entrance, stand where you want to set it, and then use /t entrance <territory>.
You must update an entrance if it changes, which can happen if you modify your base.
To see a territory's entrance, use /tinfo <territory> and hover your mouse over the siegeable structure coordinates.
If a territory's entrance coordinates aren't correct and somebody can't find the actual entrance, they can report it by messaging senior staff or using the #support channel in our Discord, which will result in the territory's loss.
Territory Overtakes
Territory overtakes are a way to forcibly take an already-owned territory for your faction.
There are two methods of doing this:
Sieges: https://sites.google.com/view/lotrsurvival-sieges
Sieges are for taking individual territories.
The territory you want to siege must be connected to your faction's home territory (if your faction has a home territory).
Wars: https://sites.google.com/view/lotrsurvival-wars
Wars are for taking multiple territories at the same time.
The territories you want to contest must be all connected to your faction's home territory (if your faction has a home territory).
More details about the two conflicts are in the links provided.
One important thing to mention about conflicts is that only factions you have been allied with for at least 7 days can assist you. Individual players in allied factions (including your own faction) must have also been in their factions for at least 7 days to assist. More information about alliances is below.
Alliances
An alliance can have up to three factions in it.
You can use /alliance or /a to manage your alliance, and /alliances to view the list of existing alliances.
As stated above, only your alliance can help you directly in territory conflicts, so they are very important to being successful in conquest. Forming and maintaining alliances is often what makes or breaks a faction's success in conquest.
Tips and Technical Notes
If you steward a territory, you could be raided at any time. Therefore we recommend that you check how raids work so no unfortunate surprises come up!
/t or /territory is the territory command - use it to see the help menu.
Use /tinfo <player> to see the territories a player stewards.
Use /tfaction <faction> to see the territories a faction owns.
Some territory and alliance commands work in the #server-chat channel of our Discord. See #welcome for a list of those commands.
You can allow, deny and view faction rank permissions using /f rank - use that command and read the help menu to see how.
You can change your alliance's colour on the conquest map and in-game using /a serverColour and /a webColour. This is optional.
Always keep an eye on the #updates and #announcements channels in our Discord, as important information pertaining to conquest gets released there.
/topfacs t orders the top five factions based on number of territories owned.
If you want to change the location of a siege base or its resource chest, simply re-apply using /apply.
New Faction Guide
This is a lot of information to digest for the first time, so we have created this brief guide for new factions to help them with their first territories.
I'm going to assume you're in a faction with a few friends, but nobody owns any territories yet:
Make sure somebody active and trustworthy leads your faction, otherwise anyone could just take over leadership and either kick you all from the faction and/or take your territories.
Once your faction is secure, have a look at the conquest map (https://lotrmc.net/map) and decide what territory to take first. This could be your faction capital for example.
Build a siege base inside that territory (https://sites.google.com/view/lotrsurvival-ssr). If you need some help understanding the SSR, please ask staff.
Make sure that siege base is defensible in case you get raided or sieged! Also make sure it has maximum total gate health (1500), otherwise if a siege is declared, you can't increase your total gate health.
Apply for that territory using /apply.
Now that you have your first territory, you can begin expanding your empire. Use /adj <yourTerritory> to see the territories you can claim, or check the conquest map for a visual representation.
