Siegeable Structure Regulations (SSR)

DEFINITIONS

• Obstruction: in general, things which can slow you down or harm you.

• Obstructions are split into two different categories; Class A obstructions and Class B obstructions:

  • • Class A: an obstruction which results in you getting stuck or dying.

• • • • • 'Getting stuck' means falling into an obstruction which results in you being unable to get out of that obstruction for 5 seconds or more.

• • • • • Falls which are 10 blocks or higher are Class A obstructions.

        • Morgul flowers are also Class A obstructions.

        • Water in certain biomes provides detrimental effects to players of certain alignments - water in Minas Morgul, Dol Guldur and Mirkwood is counted as a Class A obstruction.

        • Defensive holes with openings vertically smaller than half a block are Class A obstructions.

• • • Class B: any obstruction which isn't Class A.

• • • • • Falls from 4 to 10 blocks in height are Class B obstructions.

• • • • • Any form of ice is a Class B obstruction.

        • Anklebiters (defined below) are also Class B obstructions.

• Anklebiters: openings in the walls or floor which are used to fire projectiles or hit through with melee, which are aimed on the lower body of attackers. 'Standard' face-level arrowslits are not anklebiters.

• Accessible route: you can get through it by just walking and jumping, i.e. you don't require a horse, a spider, sprint-jumping, a magic ring, breaking/placing blocks, etc. It also means that it must be at least 3 blocks wide.

• Adjacent: part of the structure is adjacent to an obstruction if it is next to it. This can be avoided by constructing a barrier between the two; this barrier must be at least 1 block high and have no gradient, i.e. it has to step up by 1 block, so you can't use stairs facing outwards or single slabs.

• Defensive holes: holes which are used to hit or fire through, e.g. anklebiters, arrowslits, etc.

• Underground: to be defined as underground, the part of the structure in question must be fully below surrounding surface-level terrain.

• Bridge: any part of the route that is adjacent to a drop of 4 blocks or larger, on either or both sides of the bridge.

• Relative ground level: relative ground level at a particular point is the actual terrain below or either side of it - if we're underground, it's the bottom of the cave/chamber below or either side of it.

• Outside: the part of the structure which is outside any walls of the structure.

• Inside: the part of the structure which is inside any walls of the structure.

SIEGEABLE STRUCTURE REGULATIONS (SSR)

A siegeable structure is one with all of the following:

1) An overall size of at least a 400-block area.

2) A capture area: you can choose where you'd like your structure's capture area to be, subject to these restrictions:

2.1) The capture area must have at least a 100-block area.

2.2) The capture area cannot be adjacent to or contain any obstructions.

2.3) Defensive holes in the walls, ceiling or floor are not allowed to be aimed on the inside of the capture area.

3) An accessible route to get into the capture area.

3.1) Non-rammable gates, doors, etc., obstructing the route are not allowed.

3.2) Rammable gates are only allowed to obstruct the route if there is enough space in front of them for a battering ram. There must be at least an area which is 7 blocks long, 3 blocks wide and 3 blocks high for a battering ram to fit. If you have multiple gates close to each other, e.g. inside a gatehouse, assume that prior gates will be broken by the time the battering ram reaches any given gate.

3.2.1) The area up to 7 blocks out from a gate (i.e. where a battering ram would be placed) must not be within 5 blocks of any obstructions on either side. This includes anklebiters, because anklebiters are Class B obstructions.

3.2.2) If breaking any of the gates on the route with battering rams results in the structure becoming unsiegeable, e.g. water dropping from above the gate onto the route, the structure is unsiegeable.

3.3) All rammable gates on the route cannot have a combined health over 1500.

3.4) The route cannot be adjacent to any Class A obstructions.

3.4.1) For any underground part of a bridge, the barrier height required to allow surrounding obstructions is 1.5 blocks instead of 1.

3.4.2) For any staircase, the barrier height required to allow surrounding obstructions is 4 blocks.

3.5) If the route is adjacent to any Class B obstructions, the route must have at least a 5-block-wide passage which is free of all obstructions and doesn't vary in height by any more than 5 blocks during the stretch where it is adjacent to the obstructions.

3.6) Any sort of maze is not allowed.

3.7) Ladders or rope are not allowed.

3.8) Anklebiters are not allowed to be adjacent to any part of the route in underground parts of the structure.

3.9) Staircases which are 10 blocks or more above relative ground level are not allowed. If the staircase only has half-block jumps (i.e. stairs or slabs), then they can be up to 30 blocks above relative ground level.

3.10) Dart traps which can shoot players on the route are not allowed. 

3.11) The route must past the following test: a staff member will travel the route as quickly as possible by running and jumping, with all obstructing gates or doors open.

3.11.1) If the route has any part underground and the journey takes longer than 1 minute, the structure is unsiegeable.

3.11.2) If the route is fully overground and the journey takes longer than 2 minutes, the structure is unsiegeable.

3.12) The natural terrain which the start of the route connects to must have no Class A obstructions in a 5 block square radius from the central block at the beginning of the route. 

3.13) The beginning of the route must be on some form of land rather than in the middle of a body of water.

3.14) Defensive holes in the walls, ceiling or floor must not be able to be used to strike attackers without them being able to see the defender hitting them.

4) Walls which contain gravity blocks (e.g. sand or gravel) are not allowed anywhere in the structure.

5) Auto-regenerating walls (using lava and water) are not allowed anywhere in the structure.

6) Cobwebs are not allowed anywhere in the structure.

7) Quagmire is only allowed outside the structure.

8) Stabbing thorns are only allowed outside the structure.

GATE HEALTH

• Every gate block (e.g. Mithril, Wood, etc.) has a different health value.

• The health of each block in a gate is added together to calculate the total health of the gate.

• The maximum health a rammable gate can have is 300, and the maximum health for a bashable gate is 20.

• Gate health values:

  • Wooden Gate or Wooden Portcullis: 2

  • Bronze Portcullis: 3

  • Iron Portcullis: 5

  • Dwarven Doors: 5 (cannot be used for rammable gates - only for bashable gates).

  • Silver: 10

  • Gold: 10

  • Mithril: 20

  • Any other type of gate: 10

MOUNTAINOUS TERRITORIES

• Siegeable structures for territories must be overground if the territory in question is not a mountainous territory.

• More specifically, this means that no part of the route or capture area can be underground.

• The current list of mountainous territories:

  • • Angmar, Ash Mountains, Emyn Haecharad, Erebor, Grey Mountains, Harad Mountains, Iron Hills, Mountains of Shadow, Mountains of the Wind, North Blue Mountains, North Misty Mountains, Red Mountains, South Blue Mountains, South Misty Mountains, White Mountains, Woodland Realm.
