Phases of Learning

“We are building a trusted and joyful community of moms and families

who inspire and support one another in preparing for and fulfilling their God given missions in life.”

The Phases of Learning

The Phases of Learning are much like a well-built home. One must start with a solid foundation and build upward from there in order to have a strong and successful structure. It simply won't do to add the trimmings before the walls.

The purpose of a Leadership Education is to teach our children and youth HOW to think rather than merely what to think. This is best accomplished by instructing them in a way that aligns with their innate learning capacity, which depends on the developmental level of the student.

A Leadership Education is divided into Phases for younger and older children (Or rather "Junior Classes" and "Senior Classes"), with sub categories for each age range, as follows:

Junior Classes: Learning is gained primarily through the Four E's

1) Environment is loving

2) Exposure to fun, new things

3) Engagement of mind, heart, and hands

4) Experience life in motion

Senior Classes: Learning is gained primarily through reading, study, writing, research, discussion, internalizing, and personalized education.

These phases must be purposefully developed in order for the progression to happen. Keep in mind that anyone can be in any of these phases at any age depending on their personal educational experience.

See chart below for more details on what implementation of the phases looks like as well as more information on "Layers of Learning."

What do the Phases Look Like?

CORE

(0-8 yrs)

______________

Young children focus on learning core values and morals through work and family relationships.

Weekly lessons are hands-on activities such as crafts, read-aloud, or science experiments with a lot of play time intermixed.

LOVE OF LEARNING

(8-12 yrs)

______________

Older children are learning a little bit about everything and discovering the joy of learning!

Weekly lessons use hands-on projects to explore history, geography, cooking, exercise, crafts,  experiments, etc.

SCHOLAR

(12-18 yrs)

______________

The youth work with mentors and focus on reading, studying, writing, more reading, discussing and working towards a broad sturdy foundation.

Weekly classes may include discussion, writing, lectures, simulations, field trips, presentations, or collaborative projects.

DEPTH / MISSION

(18+ yrs)

______________

This is where the real fun begins! A true education should prepare you for the rest of your life!

This is where you (or your children) discover your purpose and where you feel you can make a difference, then dive deep into learning and fulfilling that mission.

Layers of Learning

Just as a mountain forms in layers and each lower layer remains an essential part of it's foundation, we likewise do not abandon the previous Phases of Learning as we progress. Rather, each phase builds on and incorporates the previous phases. Therefore, we can be in multiple phases at once, in different areas of life.

While the ages listed above are general guidelines for development through the Phases of Learning, it is important to note that we each grow and learn at our own pace and the phase we find ourselves or our children in may not match up with these exact age ranges. Please see the chart below for more guidance in understanding the Phases of Learning that you or your family members may be experiencing right now.
