This will be our first time harvesting the Petite Sirah grapes this fall. This varietal came from France and became popular in California and Australia. It produces dark colored wind with a firm texture. We plan to blend with Zinfandel.
Dr. Durif, French botanist discovered the Petite Sirah varietal and it got popular in America and Australia. It is not produced in France much anymore. The Petite Sirah wine has a dark color and firm texture.
It used to be called Durif but it was found that it was cross pollinated with Pelourshin and Syrah, and it became to be called Petite Sirah since it produces small berries. Not sure why it is spelled Sirah instead of Syrah.
It is often blended with Zinfandel and we plan to do so this year. Looking forward to this new varietal.
