The Texas Public information Act, PIA, desperately needs an overhaul in the 21st Century because instead of giving out public info regularly, the system is used to block or delay nearly every request! Jim “@MattressMack” McInvgale testified in #txlege FOR my Senate bill, SB 1579 today at Senate B&C hearing chaired by @DrSchwertner. "Mattress Mack" laid out the problem, local government, refusing to release public records even @HarrisVotes elections info! @WayneDolcefino told of the multiple 10 day delays, governments use then launch their appeal to the Texas Attorney General’s Office for 6 months. @TXAG said they now have 45K of these appeals a year! @RAMSEYforNHCRWA from North Harris Water Authority said SB 1579 would "save the public money!” LOL, Jim's tag line, and @VoteBDGriffin MoCo CA added his support along with @TPPF and @kelleyshan, the Executive Director for @TxFOIFT, who changed their testimony to FOR SB 1579 too!

What gets measured gets fixed, and SB 1579 measures compliance levels and levies a fine of $1500 a day per issue if governments refuse to follow the law!
