How is the mental state of a loner?
“In Plato’s Symposium, Aristophanes says we will never be truly happy until we find our “other half”
Elizabeth Gehrman explains how Loneliness has inspired many famous people when they were alone to find who they really were and to organize themselves. There are many robust research studies that say that loneliness may lead to an increase in strokes or heart attacks. Loneliness can be called a stressor to a person in their own mental condition. Studies show from the pandemic that many people suffered from loneliness and have become “loners”.
Javier Yanguas would talk about how loneliness can be seen from a health perspective as a “global problem” for the adult population. There are different types of loneliness that people experience according to the article. Emotional loneliness refers to an attached figure not being there with you and can feel a sense of isolation. There is social loneliness that is shown from the lack of social network a person can have. Without a social network people won’t have that sense of belonging or community within themselves. People may become socially vulnerable to many aspects of life as a loner.
“Almost anything can be adaptive and maladaptive, depending on how extreme they get,”
An article would speak of how the line between useful solitude and negative isolation is blurry. If someone were to cut all ties with other people they may develop a neglect for social contact. It also depends on if social contact is forced rather than natural. It can be better to just have a few good friends than a whole group of friends depending on how much social contact a person desires.
When loners are forced into social contact they may feel more uncomfortable than “fine” with it as it can be stressful towards them. The amount of friends a loner has is something that shouldn’t be ridiculed about if they lack friends, as it can just be that they are content with the amount they have or don’t need anymore to feel comfortable with their life.
