Where in the World is Lola?

In January 2024, my good friend Kanat J. sent me this photo of himself holding a copy of book #1 of the Lola Dérez STEM Mysteries... all the way from central Kazakhstan! He currently holds the record for owning the "book copy located furthest from Knoxville, Tennessee!" Here are his kind words about the book:

"I read your book before giving it to my son. I enjoyed the book even though it was assigned to the kids. I refreshed my knowledge in chemistry such as 'hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe', in physics '...the less dense air becomes more buoyant..' or some aerodynamic words  '...-boing! Up she flew again!' I didn't know that. I also found funny moments in the book that made me laugh '...the elderly couple sssslowly got off the elevator..'. I also like that you mention a religious theme in the book 'After whispering a quick prayer of thanks for the day...'. I believe religious education is important to children especially in modern life full of gadgets and free access to the internet. I try to educate my son about God, prophets, about good and evil. There is a proverb related to raising kids 'First, foster ethics then educate (knowledge)'. Correct me if I am wrong. There are denominators between the main character Lola and the author's bio: Spanish roots Dérez - Gonzalez; Puerto Rico motherland; Dad's and Author's occupation - environmental scientist; Lola is a girl and the author have two wonderful daughters, Lola's Mother pursuing PhD and the author have a PhD. As I see it.

I liked how you depicted Mallory. He is not just evil or a perpetrator. He is a poor kid who lost his father and uncle that hardened his heart. That personal tragedy encouraged Mallory to commit a crime. Poor boy. I enjoyed your book and will recommend my son to read it. 'I want to sign your copy of the book...' you said. I have an idea. May I ask you to film a 20-30 sec video where you address my son with some words encouraging to pursue STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). I would immediately give the book and your video (as signature) to him."
