Check in here weekly to find a few new activities to do at home. Happy New Year everyone!
Learn the fundamentals of music with The Music Show starring Luigi's Baton and Mike the Microphone, with special guest Cadence the Drummer. This episode is about how the beat is the heart of music. Check out the videos below for some rhythm activities!
Clap along with Mr. Gordon as you learn to read rhythms! This video is great for beginners but can be used at all grade levels!
This is a bit more advanced but give it a try if you're up for a challenge!
Practice your rhythm reading and coordination skills with this body percussion exercise, featuring "It's All Right" from the Disney Pixar film, Soul. Check out my example below if you want to play along with me!
If you want to follow along with me, use this video. Watch for the mistake I make right at the very end (oops)!
We haven't studied string instruments in music class, but check out this fun "name that sound" game - you might even hear some instruments you've never heard before!
Check out this great video about how to name musical notes! Can you come up with a new way to remember the note names for the lines (EGBDF)? This activity may be best suited for students in grades 3 and 4, but keen students in younger grades may enjoy learning about note names too!
A classic song that I remember well from my childhood!
This one is a fun one. I learned it first from The Wiggles!
Seriously fun for any grade level - I love this one! It keeps getting faster and faster until I just can't handle the speed anymore.
From Kindergarten MusicPlay but good for other grades as well.
I think I may have pronounced this one wrong - it should be "pa-ha-ree-tos" instead of "pa-ya-ree-tos."
A whimsical little song about a kite flying in the sky.
A favourite song and clapping game of mine when I was a kid!
A catchy little tune about the symbolism of the images we see on Canadian coins.
A Spanish song for you this week!
Time to learn some Spanish in this song that translates to "Let's Go to the Sea" - have fun!
I was going to record myself singing this song for you this week from the Grade 3 Game Plan music book, but I found this fun video that I thought I'd use instead. The song is in Spanish, and the lyrics are simply "Uno, dos, tres, baté, baté, chocolaté." Can you try doing some percussion while singing/chanting at the same time?
Grade 3 gets 2 songs this week because I had a technical glitch with Ama Lama last week!
Sorry for the delay - here it is finally!
Did you know that this song has been sung in music classes for many years? This was one of my favourites when I was a kid! Parents, how many of you remember this one?
Due to a technical glitch with uploading, you may have missed this one - check it out if you haven't seen it yet!
