• SWVA Legal Aid Society - Contact if you need an advocate to help with housing, safety, or economic security. Submit their online form or call Monday through Thursday, 8:30 am to noon and 1 to 4 pm., Friday 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. The toll-free number for the intake unit is 1-888-201-2772. Online applications may also be filed on their website.

Energy Assistance via Virginia Department of Social Services - This program helps eligible low-income households offset expenses associated with heating and/or cooling their home.

• • Cooling assistance may include help with bills, repairing units, or supplying units. Applications are accepted June 15 through August 17.

  • Weatherization assistance may help reduce bills.

  • Crisis heating assistance - through March 15. Helps with deposits, bills, equipment.

  • Heating assistance - apply mid October to mid November. Helps with bills.

Southeast Rural Community Assistance Project - SERCAP's Loan Fund offers affordable Individual Household Well and Septic Loans for low-income homeowners, to help them repair and/or replace their well or septic system. SERCAP provides individual homeowners with grants and/or affordable loans, allowing them to make necessary water, wastewater, and structural repairs to their homes.
