Our Liberal Ladies Posters are prominent in this show and have created quite a legendary reputation for us in LC . Who knows - you may actually  have work in the show!

  The County of Luna invites community members to participate in the upcoming work sessions for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Infrastructure Capital Improvement Plan (ICIP).  These sessions will provide an opportunity to discuss current and upcoming infrastructure projects that impact our community. The Work Sessions will be held at the Luna County Commission Chambers located at 700 S Silver Avenue, Deming, NM 88030.

  1. The Luna County Commissioners again considered a Proclamation regarding the Antiquities Act used to create national monuments. However, this time the Proclamation supports a Federal law intended to entirely eliminate the Antiquities Act. Public comment will be at 9:30.
  
  House Bill 521, supported by Proposition 25-11, would replace the entire Antiquities Act (54 U.S.C. Section 320301) with one sentence saying " The establishment or extension of a national monument may be undertaken only by express authorization of Congress". This will revoke the power of the President created in 1906 to act, when necessary, to protect enumerated public values on our public land from degradation.

  It seems the writers of this bill want to make people think the President just wakes up one day and decides to protect some arbitrary area of land with a stroke of his pen. It ignores the fact that Monuments are years in the making with collaborations from local constituents followed by assessments and analysis by state and federal environmental agencies, followed by legal review for compliance with local, state and federal regulations and then approved after a final public input phase, when it then goes to the President for signature.
  
  2. At the same meeting, the Commissioners considered Resolution 25-45 " supporting Catron County's Declaration of Disaster due to damage caused by Mexican gray wolves. How wolf deprivations of cattle in Catron County have become a "disaster" will be disclosed in the text of the Resolution.
• Mary Meade proposed, "Not withstanding the fact that our Commissioners have no business wasting time on the business of another County, the loss of range cattle to natural predators is hardly new, and certainly not worthy of a "Declaration of Disaster". There is already in place a 75% replacement grant called the Live Stock Indemnity Program. (https://www.fsa.usda.gov/tools/informational/fact-sheets/livestock-indemnity-program-lip)  I'm guessing 75% is a pretty good price since the ranchers don't have to pay for the feedlots to fatten up the cattle once their scrawny butts come off the scrub brush."  And, in addition, noted that Luna County farmers and ranchers have received millions of our tax money. In the past 30 years the local ranchers have received over $88 million in "disaster" subsidies. • May 20th - The first vegetable container gardening class was launched at Mary Meades' house with Alberta teaching the classes.

• May 15th - Carol Felsing connected with a local farmer to acquire the 25 gal. feed buckets to help launch the vegetable container gardening feeding project, "teach a man to fish...".

• May 1st - May Day protest at the Deming Courthouse.

• May 7th - Mary and Karel got signatures for The Forward Party Petition at WNMU

• April 15th - Mary Meade attended the Launch of the Forward Party in Albuquerque. Supporting candidates with integrity, not locked into an intractable two party system, is the beginning of real democracy.

• April 18th, sign painting at Sandras'

• April 31st Rick Lass, former Green Party candidate taught how to complete New Party Registration Petitions with class online and at Mary's house. 

• March, Mary Meade ran for Vice Chair of the Luna County Democratic Party, reaching a commitment with Christie Trejo to support her for Chair only to have Christie Trejo pull a switch at the last minute to eliminate Mary from obtaining any seat in the Party, demonstrating the prevalent lack of ethics in the Luna County Democratic Party.

• March 1st.- NMU students 11am Courthouse Park, Walk for immigration.

• March, Mary Meade printed “Red” cards, “Know Your Rights” for neighborhood distribution; offered to print for others.

• March, Nadine met with the Garden Club and County personnel to start a conversation about planting medians and creating green spaces around the county.

• March, Mary Harrell researched the assistance we can give to support one of Deming’s teachers with needing to leave the country due to residency issues and that has been resolved.
