The year 2020 brought new challenges to everyone across the world. At the start of the year, we faced the spread of Covid-19 which led to the year long lockdown. Amongst the lockdown important issues such as the Black Lives Matter movement, Almost all Women movement and Stop Asian Hate movement were created to highlight the importance of change and simple human rights. The last year has brought loss and pain to many, but the coming together of people to tackle the crisis is one that needs celebrating.
As the UK lockdown slowly begins to lift, we investigate how artists have responded to living in crisis. This exhibition has been created and curated from the childhood homes of 8 young female art students currently studying Fine Art at the Sheffield Hallam Arts Institute.
The Living in Crisis exhibition communicates individual experiences during crisis through different mediums, each with a unique take on how crisis has affected our lives.
Please join us in celebrating the launch of this exhibition by posting your own photos, paintings, and sculpture with the hashtag #livingincrisisexhibition.
The event will be online and drinks are advised!
All profit made on the fundraising and donations towards the event will be given to City of Sanctuary, a Sheffield based charity that aids reugees and asylum seekers by giving them safe spaces and support networks to help them settle into their new lives!
