The art of learning is best done when your voice is heard. If you can communicate your learning needs to me, then I can advocate for you. I recognize that this is an especially stressful time to be a student. Visible racist injustices, COVID-19, mass shootings, war, inflation, and political climate shifts have added significant stress and trauma to our lives, some more than others. Our lives may feel heavier and, as a result, you are likely coping with a lot more than you might even realize. These stressors affect your ability to process information and manage your learning -- that's a fact! The way you feel informs your ability to learn.
Give yourself grace as you do your best. I am committed to being flexible throughout this course to support you towards your academic success. I am your partner on this journey. I will support you, guide you, believe in you, and challenge you. Let's embrace these challenges together and do this.
Office Hours
Schedule a meeting with me directly using the Calendly option on the Home Page. I will hold additional office hours near the end of the semester. This information will be sent out during the weekly Announcements on Canvas.

Your success in this class is important to me. We all learn differently and bring various strengths to the class. If there are aspects of the course that prevent you from learning or make you feel excluded, please let me know as soon as possible. Together, we’ll develop strategies to meet both your needs and the requirements of the course.
I have made every effort to make this course accessible to all students. If you encounter a problem accessing anything in this course or you require an academic adjustment based on the impact of a disability (such as class note taker, larger fonts on exams, etc.), please discuss this with me and contact Student Accessibility Services (SAS) formerly the Disabled Student Programs and Services (DSPS) at 562-860-2451 ext. 2335. While SAS staff and faculty are working remotely, they are still busy serving students and supporting you. Information regarding disabilities and accommodations will be kept confidential.
There are also a range of resources on campus, including:
As a student, you may experience a range of challenges that can interfere with learning, such as strained relationships, increased anxiety, substance use, feeling down, difficulty concentrating and/or lack of motivation. These mental health concerns or stressful events may diminish your academic performance and/or reduce your ability to participate in daily activities. Cerritos services are available and treatment does work. You can learn more about confidential mental health services available on campus at either: Student Health Psychological Services.
24-hour emergency help is also available through the Mental Health Crisis Support at (562) 653-7821 (press option 1).
The Veteran’s Resource Center is a one-stop site for veteran students that provides academic support, camaraderie, and wellness programs. Please remember that your instructor is a Psychology professor, not an Information Technology support professional. So, if you ever experience technical difficulties with Canvas itself, you should instead email TNStudentHelp@cerritos.edu. To expedite the process, include your student number, your date of birth, and the five-digit section number of the class in which you are enrolled.
