Grading

My Grading Policies

I will typically grade & return assignments within 7 days of the due date. If this changes due to unusual circumstances, I’ll communicate that as needed.

If you think there is an error in your grade, please contact me immediately (not at the end of the semester).

How Will My Grade Be Calculated?

You will earn your grades in the class based on the following graded assignments:

4 Discussion Posts: 45% of total grade
1 Final Paper: 10% of total grade
2 Projects: 45% of total grade

Number Scale

A-F and % Scale

A: 81-100%

B: 61-80%

C: 41-60%

D: 21-40%

F: 0-20%

Level of Mastery

Exceeds the standards

Meets the standards

Student has key gaps in their understanding of the standard

Student isunable to demonstrate B or C levels without assistance

No evidence of the standards

Explanation of the 0-4 Scale

I like the 0-4 scale because it gives the same weight to each possible grade. In a traditional 0-100 scale, almost 70% of the scale is reserved for grades that are less than passing.

Because I’m more concerned with you showing me your growing mastery of the skills we practice, I use a scale that more directly communicates your improvement.

Keep In Mind

I know that getting good grades can sometimes be stressful. To help reduce that stress and improve the likelihood of getting your best grades, allow yourself the time and space you need to do your best work.

If you get stuck, I've set up our course so that you can reach out to me or one of your peers. I welcome your questions and I'm happy to help you think through your ideas so you can successfully complete an assignment.
