HealthStat LOS & Cost Analysis
HealthStat LOS & Cost Analysis
Project Goal:
Create a dashboard that enables stakeholders to uncover opportunities for improving operational efficiency and maintaining high-quality patient care. The dashboard should provide informative and concise visuals, allowing stakeholders to access data for making informed business decisions to enhance efficiency.
Approach:
Explore hospital discharge data for the state of New York, encompassing 151 hospitals and over 26,000 discharges within a year. Compare hospital efficiency by measuring Length of Stay (LOS) and cost per discharge between hospitals. Highlight areas for efficiency improvement through root cause analysis, identifying key attributes impacting LOS and Cost per Patient Discharge. Additionally, pinpoint factors contributing to variations in efficiency across hospitals.
Findings:
Key attributes impacting LOS and cost include the risk of mortality and severity of illness. Furthermore, the health service area of New York City and patient disposition to skilled nursing homes emerge as two crucial factors influencing differences in hospital efficiency.
