A title sequence is the method by which films or television programmes present their title and key production and cast members, utilizing conceptual visuals and sound. It typically includes the text of the opening credits, and helps establish the setting and tone of the program
The purpose of a title sequence is to credit the principal cast, crew, production company, etc., but also to set the tone for the film or TV show itself
When first hearing about this assignment I had many different ideas of what I wanted to do. So I by creating Pinterest boards with each of my ideas. Then I would be able to look at all my inspiration images and decide on my final idea. After looking at everything I chose to create a disney inspired title sequence from the the movie Inside Out. I have seen this movie many times so I knew I would be able to create a title sequence that would be accurately related to the movie itself. Here is the link to my pinterest page to look at more inspiration for this project.
After deciding on my idea, I started planning and sketching out ideas of what I wanted to do. This semester I learned lots of new skills on After Effects and wanted to incorporate that into this project. In this image I show my drawings for what I planned to have each frame look like.
To import into effects you want to go file, import, multiple files and then scroll through the files on your device and select all. When importing these videos it is important to make sure you check the create composition button
Once the files are imported, there are so many option you can do with after effects to create different effects. There are ways to animated text images, pretty much anything you can think of is possible
I also included this last picture to show that each separate composition will make its own line in after effects, and can be edited on its own. This can get very hectic with there being so many files so it is important to keep them organized so your movie will flow smoothly.
Once you have completed your video in after effects you have to export it and put it into Media Encoder. If you do not do this you will not be able to view the video as you cannot play and after effects file on its own. Once you import this video you want to change it to whatever format you chose to upload it to after. For mine I chose do mine as one that is compatible with youtube so it exported as an mp4 file. There are also options to export as Vimeo file, but I have been uploading my other work to my YouTube channel so I did the same with this video.
After many long hours of work, this is the current version of my title sequence. I am pleased with how it turned out as of right now, however this is always improving that can be done. There are still many more things I would like to add/ change but was not able to do due to the time constraints of the semester. But I will be editing and working more on this over the break, as I enjoyed creating this project very much, and even trying to make title sequences for other shows and movies.
