Demo Reel
What is a demo reel?
A showreel is a short video showcasing a person's previous work used by many kinds of people involved in filmmaking and other media, including actors, animators, lighting designers, editors, and models.
Why do we use demo reels?
Demo reels can boost a production company's chances massively by providing a “trailer” of their work. It gives them an opportunity to showcase their best work in a compelling way. A virtual portfolio that is brief, honest, and relevant is a huge attribute.
Inspiration
Throughout the course of this semester I have learned many new skills using after effects. Below I am going to include some of the different skills we have learned, but there are many more that are shown in my demo reel. I also wanted to include some of my inspiration for the clips from my demo reel. Having inspiration before creating something is a very important part of my creative process as I like to have an idea of what I want to create to start with. When creating it does not always go as planned and sometimes it turns out better than originally planned, but having an idea is a great place to start. Below I have linked my pinterest page that I use to find most of my inspiration, for past, current and future projects!
Trim Paths
Trim paths are used to create animated stroke, hand drawn animated text, animated loading bar and a lot more. trim path allow you to customize and animate a vector path. this can be used in so many different ways and is one of my favorite tools, because there are so many options. As shown above it was used to create the moving circles.
Shapes and Repeaters
Shape repeaters allow you to duplicate a layer shape and multiply it to multiple copies of the same shape vertically and/or horizontally. this can be used to create shape burst and other things of that style.
Write on Effects
The write on effect is a fun and quick technique, it makes it look as if an invisible hand is “writing” words onto the screen. this is great when wanting to create something that looked like it is being handwritten or have something appear as if it is being painted on.
Current Demo Reel
There are so many more animation effects that I used to create all the clips in this demo reel such as, 3-D cube, audio spectrum, time warp, smoke trail and many more. I am excited to practice these skills more that I have just learned as well as learn more about the tools on after effects. Here is my current version of my demo reel, but I will be creating more and adding to this with new works as I create them. Below is the link to the full demo reel video!
