Travel

Here is some useful travel information, especially for participants coming from abroad.

For those who arrive by the Eurostar at St Pancras station in London

Use the underground to reach Paddington Station in London (in about 15-20 minutes, usually). Then from Paddington Station there are fast trains to the South-West of England (Bristol, Exeter) or Wales (Cardiff, Swansea) and Reading is the 1st stop (or 2nd, some trains stop at Slough before Reading), the journey lasts about half an hour.

For those who arrive by plane and land at Heathrow (there are 5 terminals)

There are RailAir buses departing from stand/bus-stop 9 just in front of Terminal 5 at Heathrow, and also from Terminals 2 and 3 via the Central Bus Station at Heathrow every 15-20 minutes, and the journey takes about 40 minutes to an hour, depending on terminal and congestion along the way. The same busses run, of course, in the opposite direction, with the same frequency, departing in front of the Reading central train/bus station.

For those who arrive by plane and land at Gatwick (there are 2 terminals)

There are slow trains to Reading every hour or so, and they often need one transfer along the way. The journey lasts for about an hour to an hour and a half.

For those who arrive by plane and land at Luton or Stanstead

There are trains to London, about half an hour to an hour of journey, and from London one has to use the underground and reach Paddington Station, then Reading.
