Модуль«Я в театральном пространстве»

All kids like theatre! They like going to the performances and they are fond of playing on the stage. That’s what we are planning to do during the course.

First of all, we’ve got to know  the history of the theatre and learnt some facts about one the first theatres in Great Britain – the Globe Theatre in London: it was opened by William Shakespeare in the 16th century,  it was wooden, had no roof, the plays were presented at the daylight only, it was burnt out and  in 1997 was reconstructed.

September 2022    Small ballet class

Our group, inspired by watching Peppa Pig cartoons, retold the story of The Little Red Riding Hood and learnt how practicing is important. Then we played a small ballet lesson in the school hall keeping in mind the main Madam Gazelle’s instruction: “Beauty and grace!”

Watch Peppa Pig and enjoy!

October 2022    Gingerbread Man

In October we started to learn the British fairy tales, and the one we worked on in detail was The Gingerbread man. Besides reading the text, we watched cartoons and listened to catchy songs. Finally, we had a cooking class and made delicious gingerbread cookies at school. Studying the foreign culture is various and fun!

November 2022 Gingerbread Man. Creative work and rehearsal

In November we've created the stage for the performance  - it looks like a traditional British cabin for a puppet show! The children  have also made all the figures for the fairy characters  - Old Woman,  Old Man, Gingerbread Man, Cow, Pig, Horse and Fox. Painting the background was as exciting as thinking of stage light and music for the show.  We've had many hours of rehearsal during which the kids were extremely creative and responsible! Our premiere is planned to be in December - we are going to perform in three classes of elementary school.

Background "River"

Background "Oven" and "Forest"

December 2022  Gingerbread Man. Performance

In December we performed for the elementary school pupils  - 2V, 2B, 1B classes. That was responsible, fun and delicious: the actors not only played and sang, but offered cookies to small children. On last December school days we performed for two secondary classes - 5A and 5B, the classes where the engaged children study. Their play was highly appreciated by the classmates!

December 2022 The Owl and the Pussy Cat

In December we also started a new project - the performance based on the poem by Edward Lear "The owl and the pussy cat". The children got to know what limerick is, tried to create a limerick and that was a nice practice of English and rhyming skills! So what we made:

There was a man from Brazil,

Who fed fish to the seal.

The fish said: "Hey, man

I want you to smell!"

What a strange man from Brazil!

January 2023 The Owl and the Pussy Cat.

Creative work and rehearsal

In January we started learning the text accurately and designing our characters' images. We chose the music for the performance and made up a short dance for the Owl and the Pussy cat. A long period of hard but fun  rehearsal started and continued in February.

Here are some facts from the history of this poem. Edward Lear first published this charming piece of nonsense in 1871 as part of his book Nonsense Songs, Stories, Botany, and Alphabets.

It features the word “runcible” which he made up.

So, this is the poem:

I

The Owl and the Pussycat went to sea

In a beautiful pea green boat,

They took some honey, and plenty of money,

Wrapped up in a five pound note.

The Owl looked up to the stars above,

And sang to a small guitar,

‘O lovely Pussy! O Pussy my love,

What a beautiful Pussy you are,

You are,

You are!

What a beautiful Pussy you are!’

II

Pussy said to the Owl, ‘You elegant fowl!

How charmingly sweet you sing!

O let us be married! Too long we have tarried:

But what shall we do for a ring?’

They sailed away, for a year and a day,

To the land where the Bong-tree grows

And there in a wood a Piggy-wig stood

With a ring at the end of his nose,

His nose,

His nose,

With a ring at the end of his nose.

III

‘Dear pig, are you willing to sell for one shilling

Your ring?’ Said the Piggy, ‘I will.’

So they took it away, and were married next day

By the Turkey who lives on the hill.

They dined on mince, and slices of quince,

Which they ate with a runcible spoon;

And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand,

They danced by the light of the moon,

The moon,

The moon,

They danced by the light of the moon.

February 2023 The Owl and the Pussy Cat. Rehearsal and the performance

In February the kids continued practising playing on the stage and in the classroom and improved their acting and language skills.

At the end of the month the kids performed in the Main Hall to the school pupils  and teachers. That was a success!

We prepared special theatre leaflets for our visitors.

March 2023 Monologue performance. There was an old lady.

In March we studied the story by Rose Bonne about an old lay who was so hungry that she ate everything running nearby!

Then we crafted paper figures with movable details, that was fun and inspiring!  The kids retold the story of the old lady, as a monologue, moving the part of the paper craft, so that was a short personal performance.

April 2023 Animal stories by Beatrix Potter

In April we started learning a great collection of Beatrix Potter tales, remember what we know already - Peter Rabbit and Mrs Tiggy-Winkle, and learnt something new - Tom Kitten, Flopsy Bunnies, Johny Town Mouse and many others.

Inspired by Potter's tales we wrote our own story in a  nonsense style: each student wrote a phrase answering one  of the questions, then we summed up the text, corrected it a little bit and drew a picture to that!
