Ferris Wheel

This ride is one of the most attractive in the park, especially at night.

Its disk looms high, often seen from a distance. The spokes gleam with flashing lights as it whirls around its axle.

The greatest thrill comes to the riders whose seats are the highest.

The distorted view of a miniature earth hosts a feeling of grandeur. This is the ride of addiction.

Whether we get hooked on a substance, a person, or even a way of thinking,

our altered perception can make us believe we are someplace else.

The temporary rush keeps us on the cycle of obsession.

Fast or slow, high or low, ’round and ’round it goes. Nothing more.

Eventually, the revolution of addiction enslaves you like a cage.

At some point, you will need to get off and get grounded.

See this ride for what it is, and resist the temptation to soar again. The people around you will come back into focus.

Let them help you regain your footing and walk away. (S. Finelli)
