"Time management"

This work is realized in the parking lot of the NMBS station in Aarschot.
The assignment was to design a drawing for the clock in the parking lot and to make an intervention on the bicycle/footpath that runs right through the parking lot.
Concept:
The railway station is a place where there is constant movement during the day. It should run like a well oiled machine. Everything revolves around time. The clock is therefore centrally located in the parking lot.
A gear is a toothed part of a machine or structure that can be used in combination with other toothed parts or links to transmit movement. Symbolically, gears can refer to industry, machinery, technical ingenuity... how ingeniously everything is put together.
A mechanical clock mainly consists of gears. Hence the gears shown on the clock.
The parking lot forms the green link between the green spaces around the station: park Elzenhof on the one hand, and the river Demer on the other, which is connected to the city park of Aarschot.
The gears undergo a metamorphosis. The drawings on the cycle path make the link between the station and nature: in the center, at the height of the clock and the tunnel under the tracks, there are many gears, which are connected to each other. Here you are in the center of the activity. The further away you go from this central point, in the direction of Elzenhof or Demer, the more the gears fall apart. Parts are no longer visible and the gears gradually deform into an organic shape: rabbit, bat, owl, heron, perch and frog.
This project revolves around culture/nature, work/leisure time; in short, time management.
Dit werk is gerealiseerd op de parking van NMBS-station Aarschot.
De opdracht was om een tekening te ontwerpen voor de klok op de parking en een ingreep te doen op het fiets-/voetpad dat dwars door het parkeerpark loopt.
Het station is een plaats waar overdag voortdurend beweging is. Het moet draaien als een geoliede machine. Alles draait rond tijd. De klok staat dan ook centraal op de parking.
Een tandwiel is een getand onderdeel van een machine of constructie dat in combinatie met andere getande onderdelen of schakels gebruikt kan worden om beweging over te brengen.
Symbolisch kunnen tandwielen ook verwijzen naar het industriële, machines, technisch vernuft... hoe ingenieus alles in elkaar zit.
Een mechanische klok bestaat vooral uit tandwielen.
Vandaar de tandwielen die op de klok zijn weergegeven.
Het parkeerpark vormt de groene schakel tussen de groene ruimten rondom het station: aan de ene kant Park Elzenhof, aan de andere kant de rivier Demer, die verbonden is met het stadspark van Aarschot.
De tandwielen ondergaan een metamorfose. Door de tekeningen op het fietspad wordt de link gelegd tussen station en natuur: centraal, ter hoogte van de klok en de tunnel onder de sporen zijn veel tandwielen, die met elkaar in verbinding staan. Hier ben je in het centrum van de bedrijvigheid.
Hoe verder men van dit centrale punt weggaat, in de richting van Elzenhof of Demer, hoe meer de tandwielen uit elkaar vallen. Delen worden niet meer zichtbaar en de tandwielen vervormen geleidelijk tot een organische vorm: konijn, vleermuis, uil, reiger, baars en kikker.
Dit project draait rond cultuur/natuur, werk/vrije tijd; kortom, time-management.
