I am a third-year PhD student in Translation Studies at the University of Western Australia, researching the translation of sex-related language from English into Indonesian in teen novels. I am an experienced lecturer having previously taught at several higher education institutions in Indonesia. I also have taught language classes in Indonesia, the UK, the USA, and Australia.

I have published both prose and poetry, including a full-length young adult novel. Prior to my PhD, I earned a master’s degree in TESOL from University College London (UCL) in 2016 with a Distinction, a bachelor’s degree in English Studies from Universitas Indonesia (UI) in 2015, and a diploma in Publishing Studies at Politeknik Negeri Jakarta (PNJ) in 2011. I was also an Indonesian Fulbright Teaching Assistant at the University of Michigan during the 2019–2020 academic year. All of my higher degrees were supported either fully or partially by scholarships (LPDP, Beasiswa Unggulan, and PPA).

A little fun fact about me, which I am grateful for, I have lived in five different countries located in five different continents: Indonesia (home country), Egypt (5+ years), UK (1 year), USA (9 months), and Australia (4 years). Unfortunately, I never managed to learn Arabic seriously when I was a kid in Cairo, which is something that I deeply regret.

Our story.

I am a mom of a gorgeous daughter, QQ (kyu-kyu). My husband, Dr. Kenny Lischer, is a lecturer in Bioprocess Engineering, Department of Chemical Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (check out his profile here, he is brilliant I promise😉). Currently, we are making this long-distance marriage and parenting work seamlessly. I am doing my PhD in Perth while my husband's juggling between taking care of QQ and his job in Depok, Indonesia with enormous help from my parents. It does take a village to raise a child and to get a degree! Additionally, our two cats, Emak and Gori, are being cared for by a wonderful cat sitter in Jakarta.
