September 2020 - The final report: Study on the EU's list of critical raw materials is available. One of the priority actions of the Raw Material Initiative launched in 2008 by the EU was to establish a list of critical raw materials at EU level. The first list was published in 2011 and it is updated every three years. The 2020 assessment reports 30 critical raw materials of the 83 raw materials assessed. 20 April 2020 - A recent EU publication raises concerns on the availability of raw materials to meet the targets of decarbonisation in the energy sector.
18 April 2020 - The stay-at-home period, due to the Covid-19 virus is used to improve our laser -induced break-down spectrometric tools and to make the first measurements on selected materials. Samples of raw materials are selected from the collections of our institutions. We focus on lead-zinc mineralisations in Belgium. A 'reference' sample of sphalerite from the Seilles quarry (Andenne, BE) was selected and is being analysed. 17 April 2021 - Change of date for the next 'Journées LIBS' of the French LIBS Community: they will be held in Marseille next year, 2 & 3 June 2021.
29 January 2020 - The Kick-off Meeting of the project officially launched the project in presence of the BELSPO programme manager who will follow and support the project.
