Domestic Policy

The Liberal Party seeks to ensure that the freedoms and civil liberties of all people, regardless of race, ethnicity, nationality, income, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or personally held beliefs, are upheld. We are a nation of second chances, and a nation built on the promise that nothing should stand in the way of people who strive to achieve legitimate goals.

Civil Rights

• The Liberal Party is a strong advocate for the rights of free speech and free flow of ideas. We strongly condone any attempt by government to stifle the free thought and expression of individuals. However, we do acknowledge that legitimate governmental restrictions on speech exist, such as harassment, threats of violence, and other such extensions of J.S. Mill's harm principle.
• The Liberal Party supports Federal civil rights legislation that would prohibit discrimination based upon a persons sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity. America is built on the promise of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all people. Allowing institutional discrimination against any minority, a form of tyranny of the majority, goes against the intentions of our founders and goes against that crucial promise.

Criminal Justice

• Plain and simple, America locks up way too many people. This largely comes at the expense of minority Americans, especially Black and Latino people. This is an inexcusable outcome.
• To help right this wrong, the Liberal Party supports the legalization of "soft" drugs, such a Marijuana. We also support the decriminalization of "hard" drugs, such as heroin. With proper regulation of legal soft drugs, we should be able to mitigate the costs to society of any harmful effects from those drugs. Hard drugs, whose cons outweigh any possible regulated legal alternative will be decriminalized so we can focus on treating the underlying addiction, ensuring people can stay clean for longer and their freedom isn't taken away from them by throwing them into jail for extended periods.
• The Liberal Party supports state and local solutions to policing issues in minority communities, especially the killings of many unarmed Americans, representing the ultimate, unilateral taking of an individuals life. liberty, and happiness.
• We hope these solutions will end the cycle of poverty created, on the taxpayers dime, by the American justice system.

Immigration

America is a nation of immigrants. It is a land of opportunity for all people, a shining beacon of hope to the poor and oppressed masses all over the world. As such, we support reforms to the American immigration system that would make it much easier for those without criminal histories to immigrate to America. We would do this by drastically shortening the process to enter the United States, which currently can take years, as well as ending the restricted lottery system currently in place.

National Defense

• All Americans should have the right to feel free of threats to themselves or their property from outside actors. This can represent protection from both physical attack and protection from cyber attacks, in the form of espionage from a foreign power on national secrets and corporate documents.
• The Liberal Party is committed to expanding Americas cyber defenses to contain the threat posed by foreign actors both sponsored by foreign governments and not.
• Safety at home comes from American presence abroad. It must be admitted that America is a powerful country with a powerful military and diplomatic core. By offering a helping hand to those in need, as well as ensuring those abroad who would seek to do harm to Americans at home are punished, we can create a better global community, ensuring our own safety at the same time as the safety of others. It is important however that we do this through the international rules based order and lead by example, showing the world that even a nation as powerful as America will subject itself to rules so as to make the whole world a better place.
