The Classroom Inclusivity Subcommittee is dedicated to educating and working with faculty, staff, and students in providing equal access to opportunities and resources to LGBTQ+ people. Current initiatives include preventing deadnaming and misgendering in the classroom and encouraging open use of pronouns via online and in-person communication. For more information or to get involved, please reach out to Missy Beyer, (mbeyer@memphis.edu) and Raven Cole (rcohen2@memphis.edu).
The Equitable Restroom Committee (ERC) was created in 2019 with the aim to advocate for all-gender restrooms in line with the department of psychology’s and university’s core values of equity and inclusion. The ERC has worked arduously with multiple departments across campus to identify an accessible, ADA compliant, and cost-effective plan to provide all-gender restrooms in the Psychology building and has submitted a request for funds to be allocated to this project for the 2022 funding cycle. For a list of current all-gender restrooms available on campus, see here. For more information or to get involved, please reach out to Hannah Gilliam, hcglliam@memphis.edu.
The Community Outreach Subcommittee is devoted to raising awareness and connecting with the community on LGBTQ+ events and holidays. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our current efforts focus on raising awareness of LGBTQ+ celebrations and challenges via virtual monthly newsletters and events hosted on Zoom. For more information or to get involved, please reach out to Hannah Cole, hecole1@memphis.edu.
