OUTREACH & COMMUNICATION

I am committed to making the science I do available and accessible to others, especially to early career scientists, as well as to the general public, younger generations, rightsholders and stakeholders. 

My appointments include e.g., :

• I am co-chair of the BEPSII working group since 2023. I am also responsible for the OUTREACH TG of BEPSII since 2012.

• Since 2022 I have been a Finnish representative for the IASC Cryosphere WG and since 2024 I am also a Vice-chair of the WG.

• I am a member of the WCRP 's Clivar/CliC Northern Oceans Region Panel  since 2023

Among my contributions:

• I have been invited/gave a keynote at several science conferences

• I have chaired several science sessions at international scientific meetings

• I have written scientific papers for a variety of journals, including Science Advances and Nature Climate Change

• I teach the basics of marine biogeochemical modelling with applications to sea ice and polar oceans

• I pre-examine PhD theses

• I supervise Master and PhD students, and mentor Postdoctoral researchers 

• I review  scientific proposals for several national funding agencies and other relevant bodies, such as IPCC, SCOR, EU commission

• I review papers for several peer-review scientific journals, including PNAS and Nature Climate Change

• I review project reports, such as those funding by the European Union

• I am an associated editor for "Frontiers in Marine Sciences" and " Annals of Glaciology"

• I organized a sea-ice field school for early career scientists in the Canadian High Arctic in May 2022. Read more and watch it HERE.
