"SEA - Teacher Project; An Overview"

The SEA Teacher Project or the “Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange in Southeast Asia” is a project that aims to provide opportunity for pre-service student teachers from universities in Southeast Asia to have teaching experiences (practicum) in schools in other countries in Southeast Asia.

Based on the SEAMEO seven priority areas for the eleven SEAMEO Member countries to work together to improve the quality of education in Southeast Asia, “Revitalizing Teacher Education” is one of the priority areas in building and strengthening capacity of teachers in the region.

The exchange is preferably for 4th year students whose major are in math, science, English and pre-school. The duration is for one month and based on the mechanism of cost sharing basis. Students’ roles and responsibilities are assigned weekly during the one month period (observe, assist in teaching, teach and reflect). Moreover, the host universities will provide mentors to supervise and monitor the students throughout the practicum period.

1) To enable the student teachers to develop their teaching skills and pedagogy.

2) To encourage the student teachers to practice their English skills.

3) To allow the student teachers to gain a broader regional and world view.

4) To expose future teachers to diverse teaching and learning situations and opportunities, and the value of flexibility.

"WHY DID I PARTICIPATE IN THE SEA-TEACHER PROJECT?"

    I believe that experiential or real-time learning is a lot more effective than just book or textbook learning. I also believe that participating in the SEA-Teacher Project will enhance my English-speaking skills, social skills, and ability to deal with new problems. Further, I believe that the experience and the lessons I learned during the sea-teacher program will be my edge or weapon in the near future. I also learned that the learnings and experiences gained during my participation in the SEA-Teacher Project will not be paid by any amount of money. I have so many reasons why I participated in the SEA-Teacher Project, but I realize that the main reason why I participated or joined the SEA-Teacher Project is that I must know how to teach and handle them so that they can have comfortable or conducive learning.
