The practicum is an essential part of experiential learning in education that aims to close the knowledge gap between theory and reality. The program created by the SEA-Teacher strengthens my teaching skills, enhances my English proficiency, and exposes prospective teachers to a variety of teaching and learning circumstances and opportunities. I am a pre-service student teacher and it offers me an opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in real-world settings, gaining invaluable hands-on experience. Through this practice, I am able to improve my classroom management skills and have a better grasp of the teaching profession.
Practicum requires strategic preparation and collaboration between educational institutions and host schools. Pre-service student teachers are assigned to mentor teachers who assist them in lesson planning, teaching, and assessment. They also receive frequent feedback and observation sessions for improvement and professional growth.
Observation plays a pivotal role in practice teaching, it helps better understand the students behavior, teaching strategies and teaching methods used. Classroom setup, why certain students act and behave in that way and how teachers deal with diverse students.
The observation provides me as a pre-service student teacher valuable teaching experience, improved pedagogical skills, and a clear understanding of the challenges and rewards of teaching. These experiences I have will be my basis on applying what should be in a real-classroom set up.
Teaching practice grants student teachers to experience the actual teaching, learning environment, acquiring teaching skills and teaching competence. It improves student teachers ability to teach and as a result improves students outcome as well.
I gained a lot of knowledge during my teaching practice, especially in the area of knowing what to do and what not to do. Since you can never predict the future, careful planning and preparation are essential, especially having a backup plan at all times. I'm glad for the experience since it has given me new perspectives and broadened my horizon.
Teaching practice helps me refine and reconstruct existing knowledge and practices, and construct new knowledge and practices related to teaching and learning. Meanwhile the practicum offers significant benefits, it also has challenges. These include adapting to diverse classroom environments, managing classroom behaviors, and balancing teaching responsibilities with school activities and tasks.
Overall, the practicum is an important component of programs that prepare the future educator to become teachers, to fulfill their duties and responsibilities. It provides future educators with ideas on how to create a safe learning environment, attend to students' needs, embrace diverse learners, educate students at all grade levels, accommodate different learning styles, set an excellent example, be adaptable and resourceful, and treat all students equally so that no one is left behind.
It provides a beneficial and rewarding experience that significantly accelerates their professional development. During this practicum, I have a fantastic opportunity to develop myself and put my teaching skills to actual use.
