Legacy Debate Club has highly experienced leaders who are committed to Stoa's mission of training students to speak boldly and change the world for Christ. All the leaders in Legacy Debate Club have won first place titles at Stoa tournaments and have qualified multiple years for the National Invitational Tournament of Champions.
With 45 tournament wins, including a record 9 consecutive wins in a single speech event, Mathis Trimouille has been described as one of the best speakers in Northern California. Ranking top 5 at Nationals in 6 different speech events in 2025, Mathis also finished 6th at Nationals in Lincoln-Douglas Debate in 2024 with a record of 10-3 and 8th in Lincoln-Douglas in 2025 with a record of 9-3.

Qualifying for nationals in all three years of competing, Solomon Hou is a standout Lincoln-Douglas debater. He won Lincoln-Douglas debate at the 2nd largest Northern California tournament of 2025, and consistently performs at the top at every tournament he attends. With seven top-five finishes across various speech events in tournaments, Solomon’s unorthodox strategies and innovative ideas make him stand out as a remarkable debater.

Jonathan Hong has competed in Stoa for three years. During that time, he has qualified for Nationals in Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Apologetics, Original Oratory, Persuasive, Slam Poetry, and Duo Interpretation. He won 3rd place in Lincoln Douglas Debate at the Silver Lining and advanced to outrounds at the largest California tournament of 2025, SoCal Classic. In addition, Jonathan won 1st place in Persuasive at Ready Response in 2024. Jonathan’s mission is to equip students with the skills they need to debate with excellence, and, most importantly, to help students speak boldly and change the world for Christ.

Qualifying for Nationals in all of his three years competing, Walter Mitby has had multiple tournament wins, as well as winning 4th in Lincoln-Douglas debate at the largest preliminary tournament in the nation, SoCal Classic, in 2025. Ranking 7th in the nation in Expository Speaking in 2023 with a 5th place finish at Nationals, Walter is a logical and passionate speaker. His goal is to help students to become proficient in debate and have the confidence to defend the Christian faith. He believes true success is achieved not by winning tournaments, but by learning to speak for Christ.
