Welcome to Unit 4: This unit was all about learning how to create digital animations based on a given topic. We explored different types of animation and how they're used in various ways, such as shows, cartoons, and more. One of the coolest parts was actually making our own 30-second animation video, which really helped us improve the skills we were taught. It was organised in three Learning Aims ( A, B and C) where we had to follow certain criteria.
I started Learning Aim A by gathering information about four different 2D and 3D animations, explaining their intended purpose and features. I then reviewed how these products are fit for their purpose and the intended effect on the audience. Lastly, we discussed the strengths and weaknesses of two animation products in detail. This learning aim helped me understand the variety and creativity in animation, as well as how different techniques are used to achieve specific effects.
In this Learning Aim, I described the audience and purpose for our animation design, which helped us focus on who we were creating the animation for and why. The oplan was to make a 30-seconds animation but midne turned out to being more than 75 seconds.
I planned the design for the animation product, including:
Description of requirements from the brief
A storyboard
A list of ready-made assets
Audio assets
I then created a detailed animation product design, including reasons why I have discarded alternative ideas, justified my final design decisions, explained how they would fulfil the stated purpose and requirements of the brief and meet the needs of the audience.
Learning Aim C was easier than expected because I just had to create the video animation and submit it along with the documentation. This included making changes based on peer feedback that tested my video for any bugs or issues. This streamlined process allowed me to focus on improving the animation and ensuring it met the required standard.
This unit has really boosted my understanding of digital animation and gave me practical skills to create engaging animations. Making my own animation video was especially fun and rewarding, as it let me apply what I learned in a creative project. I’m excited to keep developing my animation skills and exploring new creative possibilities in digital animation.
