Christian Mueller

Christian Mueller currently holds the rank of Associate Professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Memphis. His administrative leadership positions at the University of Memphis include serving as Program Coordinator for the Educational Psychology Program (2012-2015; 2017), Program Chair for the combined program in Educational Psychology and Research (2015-2016), and as Interim Chair (2017-2018) and permanent Chair for the Department of Instruction and Curriculum Leadership (2018-December, 2019). He has worked extensively in conducting K-12 school-based research, and his research interests focus on explaining motivational and achievement patterns among potentially at-risk adolescent student populations. Much of his research lies at the intersection of developmental theory, ecological theory, and social-cognitive theory/motivational theory, and focuses specifically on understanding how social supports—family, school, and peers—enhance or impeded achievement and achievement processes (e.g., goal-setting, self-regulation, mindset) in underserved and potentially at-risk student populations. He has explored these issues at the student, classroom and at the broader contextual level, and he has served as PI on a recently completed Bill & Melynda Gates Foundation Grant (2016-2019). In addition, He have also served or currently serves as PI, Co-PI or Senior Personnel on over $2 million in funded projects.
