Minecraft combat is... unbalanced. That is for sure, it is either extremely easy, or it is extremely hard and so you cheese it. Here are some changes to make it more fair on both ends!

Did you know that Zombies actually have a small inherent armor value? I sure did. That is why in Valiance, Zombies lean more into the admittedly subtle "tank" archetype.
Their health is increased from 20 to 30, and their speed is increased slightly. This is absolutely not inspired by the 2010s 'Zombie Craze'!
And of course, Zombies now have a possibility of spawning carrying more tools and weapons, and have the new Brute variant.
People other consider Evokers mini-bosses, which I find quite strange because they have the same amount of health as Zombies. Ah, no matter. In Valiance, Evokers now have 40 health, making them much tougher to take down.
Additionally, Vexes have had their health cut down drastically to 6, meaning they are no longer functionally more powerful than the Evokers.
Also, Evokers in Raids now only drop Lesser Totems of Undying, so there is an actual reason to visit Woodland Mansions.
Spiders never really had a proper niche they filled. Sure, they can climb walls, but that does not really come up very often.
Now, Spiders have a small chance of placing a Cobweb on the player when attacking. Do not worry, it is only a 10% chance, and as long as you never get hit, it will not happen. Perhaps you should keep a Spear on hand, to take care of Spiders?
Note: This only applies to common Spiders. Cave Spiders are already unique enough, with their poison.
Shields have been completely revamped in Valiance. They no longer block all damage, instead drastically cutting the amount of damage taken by a hit. Other shields can be crafted, which give a greater or lesser amount they can block.
Also, all shields use this new template to craft. That way there is an actual cost.
The shield rework is kind of a work in progress, and changes may be made in updates to Valiance.
Valiance re-balances a couple of vanilla Enchantments, alongside its new additions. Here is a list of all changes:
Every level of Protection over 1 is 25% less effective, and damage types that are covered by another type of Protection Enchantment will not be affected by Protection.
Power Enchantment can now be applied to Crossbows
Quick Charge is slightly less effective above the first level
Breach is substantially more effective
Trial Chambers loot has been reworked in a couple of ways, most obviously now dropping Loot Bags from Trial Spawners rather than consumables directly. This is to prevent your inventory from getting clogged up with food items you are not planning on using, until you decide to open them. They will also provide greater quantities, since 1 cooked chicken will not really help much in the long run.
Vaults have also been changed, no longer dropping regular arrows in exchange for more poison arrows, as well as now containing more weapon variety rather than just axes, and any armor piece instead of just chestplates.
