Story Retells

The Mitten Story Retell

The children really enjoy books, stories and retelling stories with materials. We will take these literacy skills and experiences, and create fine and gross motor centers with materials that focus on the books and stories. This gives the children an opportunity to practice the motor skills with familiar and interesting materials. It is also an excellent oral language development opportunity, which is the foundation for future literacy skills.

We read the book "The Mitten" and then retold the story using the different animal masks. The children used their memory of the story and the visual cues of the masks to remember the order that the animals appeared in the story. They then had to use their gross motor skills to physically mimic the animal, and then move and stand in the correct order of the story.
