Reading with preschoolers:

Children at this age LOVE to be read to and to look through books and "read" them to you. Read as much as you can around them (so they can see you reading) and give them books that they can read on their own. It is important to give them time to read and explore books on their own, and also spend time reading to them. The more you read to them and the more exposure they have to books, the stronger their literacy and language skills become. Their vocabularies will grow and they will continually practice oral language development. This will make them strong readers later in life.
