My name is Meaghan Pohl, but you can call me Professor Mey (pronounced "May", she/her). Welcome to Anatomy at LAVC! We will spend these next 16 weeks getting to know one another and learning about the human body.
This is our Liquid Syllabus, a site that contains all of the information you need about this course. Please spend some time exploring each of the pages using the navigation menu. There will be a quiz on this information in Canvas!
Each week in Canvas you will have a weekly module that contains list of lecture topics to watch, an online assignment, reading chapters, and a practice quiz.
Each module will open by Sunday of each week (sometimes sooner!)
Lab is in AHS 247 from 9:40 am to 12:50 pm, on Tuesdays
We will spend most of the time in lab studying from our lab handouts. The end of class is dedicated to your Exit Quiz for the day. Some Lab classes will be a Review Session and Exam. These dates vary so be sure to check the schedule!
This class begins on Monday, February 10th and ends on Monday, June 9th. Participation online and attendance in-person is required.
You can view our schedule by choosing "Schedule" from the navigation.
Online attendance is based on your participation in our Canvas site. Canvas tracks how many times you access pages, participate in discussions, watch videos, and take quizzes.
You can read more about enrollment requirements by choosing "Policies" from the navigation.
Anatomy is a difficult course and may be more difficult than you imagine. This class will take up a lot of time and mental resources, so it's better that you are prepared.
Follow these tips and trick, and I know you will be successful in this class:
Know the schedule - know when we have exams and the topics on each exam so you are prepared.
Watch all of the lectures. Trust me. Invest the 3 hours a week on watching (or listening to) my lecture videos.
Use our lab handouts as your notes. Use the margins of the paper to include notes about each structure you identify!
Make mind-maps, diagrams, and flash cards. There are lots of ways to study, but these prove to be the best when studying anatomy.
Have passed Biology 3, Biology 5, or Biology 6 with a grade "C" or better
