About me

Hello all. My name is Lauren, but everyone calls me Lo. I'm originally from New York, and even though I've lived in Oakland for over 11 years, I still have plenty of feisty East Coast energy. I'm ready to bring my energy to the nursing profession.

I am an RN completing an advanced practice clinical fellowship in palliative care. I will graduate with my Masters in nursing in December 2021. I've found it especially fulfilling and meaningful to work with clients at end-of-life. I hope to pursue a career in palliative care or hospice, with a focus on holistic and psychedelic nursing care. I aspire to become a nurse practitioner and eventually a nursing instructor.

Professionally, I worked as a speech-language pathologist for ten years, focusing on geriatric adults with language and swallowing disorders. While I loved my work and my clients, I wanted to expand my scope to work with patients more holistically. I felt that nursing would allow me to connect with patients in this way.

Social justice and environmental justice causes are very dear to me. I believe that we cannot have a healthy society if the systems that control our lives are sick.

As a person with privilege, I hope to use my power to advocate for equity and justice for all people. I'm especially passionate about improving the quality of healthcare for people with communication disorders, like aphasia, who receive lower quality care and have worse outcomes.
