Train Students on In-class Wiki Use to Facilitate Group Work

In order to make my assessment and evaluation mirror 21st century trends, I had students in my classes create wikis to house their work. Each time we started a new project, each group would create a new wiki that all members (and me) could edit. This activity is closely related to Technology Facilitator (TF) Standard IV: "Assessment and Evaluation" (Williamson & Redish, 2009, p. 206) and others.

This activity helped me master the standard by giving me a tool to assess students engaged in 21st century learning. Since we were doing so many group projects, I had to find a way to hold individual students accountable. The wiki was perfect for that, because each time a wiki site is updated, an entry is added to a log telling the time, date, and editor. It is easy for me, as a teacher, to look at the site history and see who is contributing and when. It also resolved issues of "lost" homework and server inaccessibility.
