GRADE III LATIN CLASS
GRADE III LATIN CLASS
Grade III Latin is the second course of Latin study, for students who completed Prima Latina text covered in Grade II Latin. The course consists of the first twelve chapter lessons from the class textbook, Latina Christiana, supplemented by special songs, poems, historical literary/scientific excerpts, quotes & phrases according to the day's feast in the liturgical calendar. This interdisciplinary approach offers students an opportunity to reflect on the role of language in relation to concepts studied in other academic subjects. Each lesson covers:
Ten vocabulary words with corresponding English derivatives
A grammar form
Latin sayings that teach Christian or Classical heritage
Consistent reviews
The exercises in each lesson provide constant review of materials learned throughout the course. Every five lessons, students review the material and take a test (complete with key) to ensure mastery. Phrases covered in each lesson will include a cursive writing practice page. The cursive practice page from Lesson I is shown below.
The class text Latina Christiana, is specifically designed for students who are still building English grammar comprehension and wish to learn Latin at a slower pace and learn English grammar in the process. Its goal is to teach and reinforce an understanding of the basic parts of English speech while reviewing and introducing new Latin vocabulary and grammar forms. In succession to the material covered in Grade 2 Latin, the course continues to ground the fundamental concepts of English grammar, the key to Latin study.
