About Us

Opened in July of 2018, the Creation Station is the first public MakerSpace in the Coachella Valley. The Creation Station is a community resource with the City of La Quinta and located inside the La Quinta Public Library. We offer hands-on classes to adults and kids 14 years of age or older on topics such as 3D Printing, Laser Cutting, Sewing, Electronics, and more! Makers are able to become a member where they are granted access to machines that they have been trained on when they are available.

In March on 2019 we developed our MakerSpace Camps which teach classes on 3D Printing, Sewing, Electronics, Tools and other crafts to young makers between 7–13 years old. This program is offered once a month with a morning and afternoon session of limited spots. Reservations are required prior to the MakerSpace Camps. (Check our monthly calendars for the topic of the month.

3D Printers: The Creation Station uses Bambu Lab X-1 Carbon 3D printers with AMS (up to 8 spools of filament) and approves the use of PLA, ABS, PETG, and TPU filament. If you decide to use your own filament, please have a MakerSpace technician approve your material before using it in our machines.  We also offer advanced 3D printing classes with our SLA resin printer by PRUSA.

Laser Cutter: The Creation Station uses a Universal Laser Systems VLS6.75 laser engraver. This laser is able to cut through wood, acrylic, fabric, paper, and cork, and it can engrave glass, thick woods, and painted metals. The laser cutter also has a rotary tool attachment for engraving cylinder objects like metal drinking bottles and vases. The laser does not cut metal or any vinyl materials. For designing projects, we use the free vector program InkScape and the paid program CorelDraw.

Sewing: The Creation Station has two Singer 4452 Heavy Duty sewing machines which are able to sew fine, normal, and thick fabrics. We also have a Heavy Duty Overlock machine and b79 Bernette (YaYa Han edition) sewing machine which offers digital embroidery.

Soldering: The Creation Station has two WES51 Weller Analog Soldering Stations available for use with Electronics.

CAD: The Creation Station uses AutoDesk Fusion360 in our CAD classes. For our MakerSpace Camps and in adult classes by request, we teach how to use TinkerCAD.

Cricut Maker (Cri-cut pronounced similar to the word cricket): The Creation Station has a Cricut Maker 3, Cricut design space, small and large heat presses and multiple tools for create any project on this blade cutting machine from iron-on vinyl, card making and print & cut stickers.

Sublimation: The Creation Station has an EPSON 570 sublimation printer which uses special ink that can be transferred to various surfaces with the use of special heat presses.

Vacuum Former: The Ceation Station uses the MAKU Formbox for our vacuum forming class where patrons are shown how to make molds from different thermoplastics.
