Meeting Your Land
Open Call for Photo & Video
October 2026, Zafferana, Pedara, Viagrande, Milo - Etna Area, Sicily, Italy
Meeting Your Land is an open call inviting local and international artists working with eco-embodied, site- responsive, and place-based methodologies to submit photographic & audiovisual works for a multi-venue collective exhibition taking place in the Etna area (Sicily) in October 2026. Curated by SICULARTE and LEREA, in collaboration with IFEEA – The International Forum for Eco Embodied Arts, APS Trucioli and the Ecomuseo del Castagno dell'Etna di Milo, the exhibition explores how embodied visual practices can contribute to contemporary ecological consciousness by foregrounding diverse embodied relationships to the land. It brings together artworks engaging with distinct ecological conditions across the globe, transforming the region into a living canvas where landscapes, bodies, and perceptions converge.
Through this encounter, the exhibition fosters shared ways of sensing and inhabiting land, cultivating connections between artists, audiences, and the living environments they engage with, while opening a reflective space attuned to the vitality, textures, and stories of both near and distant terrains.
We particularly welcome works that:
are site-specific—created with, in response to, and in relational experience with a particular natural landscape, ecosystem, or geography.
emerge from embodied attention, sensorial encounter and experience, or sustained presence in a specific landscape.
articulate lived experiences, relational narratives, or place-based stories.
explore ecological interdependence, vulnerability, memory or transformation.
By gathering and connecting artworks rooted in diverse territories, the exhibition becomes a meeting of geographies, sensuous vocabularies, and embodied perspectives resonating with one another, thus viting audiences to sense, inhabit, and reflect upon both near and distant lands.
This exhibition will be presented alongside "Appear/Vanish - a symbiosis between Body and Etna", a site-specific photographic project by Sicilian artist Stefania Milazzo. Rooted in the volcanic presence of Mount Etna, Milazzo’s work becomes a meeting point, bringing diverse artistic geographies into dialogue with the Etna landscape and with one another.
Meeting Your Land is a collective exhibition on the move. Selected images and videos will be shown across multiple venues in the province of Catania, in various villages located between the sea and the Etna Volcano, transforming the territory into a living exhibition space.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Artworks will be selected based on:

RESIDENCY OPPORTUNITY
Artists selected for "Meeting Your Land" exhibition have the possibility to apply for the 21-day Culture Moves Europe Funded Residency in Sicily "Ec(h)oes of Etna" in July 2026. During the residency artists exchange their practice in the eco-embodied field and co-create an interactive outdoor performance in the Sciare (ancient lava flows) and chestnut forest of Etna Volcano.
Up to 3 artists legally resident in one of Creative Europe countries, are selected to participate in the 21-day Culture Moves Europe Funded Residency.
Artists resident in Italy or outside the Creative Europe Countries can still apply to join the Residency at their own expenses and can stay for a shorter period.
Please state in the application form of the OPEN CALL for the Collective Exhibition if you are interested in the Residency.
Please Note: The exhibition happens independently from the residency.
The funded residency opportunity is subject to confirmation of Culture Moves Europe fundings (final confirmation in June 2026).
