Welcome to the Languages of the Spiral site! My name is Bowl of Wyrms and you may already know me from my other 101 projects, like my Decoding the Map of Marco Pollo site or my Animals of the Spiral Encyclopedia. I am NOT a KingsIsle employee nor am I affiliated with the company, I'm just a huge fan of Wizard101 and Pirate101.
Throughout both games are countless symbols plastered all over housing items, decorations, buildings, and even concept art. Most of these symbols are simply decorative and do not translate into any English letters or words. Some examples include:
Glyphs found in Sardonyx, Khrysalis
Spell-Writ runes found on various creatures and pets
Symbols found on every duel circle and world gate
Other symbols are similar in that they are not decipherable, yet they are mean to look like languages or writing systems. These are especially found on maps, scrolls, or banners in the games. Some examples of this are:
Text that appears on MooShu-themed items
Glyphs on an ancient stone from Mirage
Writing in a cave in Monquista
However, there is a third category of symbols that can be translated into English. They are found as cryptograms--codes with symbols can be substituted for real letters--yet they are hardly ever acknowledged by the games or players. I like to call these "languages" because they seem to belong to groups from specific worlds, like the Bears from Grizzleheim or the Burrowers from Khrysalis. Additionally, the languages often reference the lore of the world, be it legendary characters or a group's history, and serve as Easter eggs for players questing through those worlds. I have found a total of 8 languages and I explore each one in depth on this site. I believe that there are even more languages to be found in either game or in future updates, but for now I have decided to share my findings with the 101 community.
On each page there is a translation table that clearly shows how each symbol represents each letter of the English alphabet. Not all of these are completed, but if I uncover any more letters in the future, I will update them. I tried to make them as legible and as user-friendly as possible so that everyone has the ability to translate any of the cryptograms that they find in the games.
I hope you all enjoy this site as much as I have enjoyed cracking codes!
