Nearest Metro stations: Ciudad Universitaria (Line 6)
1) From Madrid Airport to the City
Madrid’s main airport is Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas (MAD). Main practical options (fastest to most flexible):
A) Cercanías (commuter rail) from Terminal T4
If you arrive at Terminal T4, you can take Renfe Cercanías trains directly into Madrid. Lines serving the airport station are C1 and C10 (station: “Aeropuerto T4”).
Useful city stops for most visitors:
· Nuevos Ministerios (excellent connections to Metro)
· Chamartín-Clara Campoamor (long-distance trains + Metro)
· Atocha (long-distance trains + central connections; many visitors use this as a reference point)
Note: The Cercanías airport station is in T4 (level -1). If you land at T1/T2/T3, use the free airport shuttle bus to T4 first (follow “T1-T2-T3 ↔ T4” signs).
B) EMT Airport Express Bus (Line 203 – “Aeropuerto Exprés”)
This is the simplest 24/7 direct bus option from the terminals to central Madrid.
· Main central stops: Atocha (daytime departures) and Plaza de Cibeles (night-time departures).
· Intermediate stop: O’Donnell (Metro connection).
· Flat fare: 5.00 EUR (pay onboard; card/contactless typically accepted).
· Good option when you have luggage and want a single, direct ride to the centre.
C) Other public buses from the airport (EMT + interurban)
Depending on your terminal/destination, conventional EMT buses can be useful (regular city fare). Examples include:
· EMT 200 (Airport – Avenida de América interchange, good Metro connections).
· EMT 101 (Canillejas – Barajas / airport area, connects with Metro Line 5 at Canillejas).
· Interurban buses (CRTM) connect the airport to some surrounding towns.
Tip: For most international delegates, the Airport Express (203) or Cercanías from T4 will be the easiest options.
2) From Madrid City Centre to the Faculty (Edificios A & D)
The Faculty buildings are on the Ciudad Universitaria campus. The two most practical approaches are Metro or buses to/through Moncloa.
A) Metro route (Line 6): typical route from central Madrid
· Go to Metro Moncloa (Lines 3 and 6).
· Take Line 6 (Circular) to “Ciudad Universitaria” (1 stop).
· Walk from Ciudad Universitaria station to the Faculty buildings (Edificios A & D).
Walking note: From “Ciudad Universitaria” station, expect an easy campus walk. Allow about 10–15 minutes and follow signs for “Facultad de Filología” / “Facultad de Filosofía”.
B) Bus routes (good option from the centre and for Moncloa hotels)
Buses serving the Faculty area (per UCM information for Facultad de Filología) include:
· EMT bus 82, 132, 133
· EMT bus F, G, U
Where to board: Many delegates staying near Moncloa can simply use Moncloa interchange (Metro + buses) and ride a short distance into campus. All bus trips can be paid with contactless cards.
3) Accommodation: where to stay areas with easy access to Ciudad Universitaria
Most convenient (recommended)
· Moncloa / Argüelles (Ventura Rodríguez): closest major interchange; easiest access by Metro/bus.
· Plaza de España: quick connections to Moncloa (Metro Lines 3/10 and buses).
· Callao / Gran Vía area: central, well connected; simple to reach Moncloa by Metro or bus.
More affordable but still well connected
· Cuatro Caminos: strong Metro connectivity and easy onward travel to Ciudad Universitaria by bus (F, G).
· Tetuán – typically more affordable options and good transport links.
4) Practical tips for delegates
· Allow extra time at peak hours (08:00–10:00 and 17:00–19:00).
· Keep some cash or a bank card/contactless ready for transport tickets (Airport Express is a special fare).
· Useful apps: EMT Madrid (buses), Metro de Madrid, and Google/Apple Maps for step-by-step directions.
