Project Description
This project explores the digital landscape and digital divide in two different countries. My partner and I researched Malaysia and Ethiopia to compare their demographics, digital access, infrastructure challenges, and the social factors influencing technology adoption. The goal was to understand how geographic, economic, and political conditions shape each country’s digital development.
Malaysia
Ethiopia
One interesting thing I learned is that Malaysia has extremely high internet usage (around 98%), yet rural areas still struggle with poor connectivity. In contrast, Ethiopia’s digital transformation is growing but faces major obstacles like limited infrastructure, low internet penetration, and high service costs. This shows that both countries have digital gaps, but for completely different reasons.

Through this project, I learned how differently countries can experience the digital divide based on their economic development, geography, and government policies. I also gained a better understanding of how digital access affects education, communication, and opportunities for people. Working with my partner helped us divide the research and combine our findings into one organized comparison. We communicated regularly, shared sources, and supported each other in making the project clear and meaningful. Overall, this project helped me improve my teamwork, research, and digital literacy skills.
