TOP TIPS FOR SUCCESS IN CITIZENSHIP
Attempt every question. It sounds simple, but failing to have a go at even a couple of questions across the two papers can be the difference between a grade.
For source work questions use information from the source and your own knowledge. Do not answer them as you would a comprehension question. You will lose marks.
Include relevant examples to support your points. This shows the examiner that you have a good understanding of citizenship concepts and that you have an interest in the subject beyond what the specification requires you to study.
For essay questions ensure that your answer shows a chain of reasoning. In class we have spoken about 'why? why? why?'. Simple for and against arguments are not enough to secure the top grades. You must be able to analyse the points you make.
Write a plan. For essay questions, writing a quick plan can help you to stay focused and not stray from what the question is asking you.
Don't forget a conclusion! Even if you are rushed for time, make sure you include a conclusion that makes it clear what your view on a particular issue is. Writing 'overall I think...' is not a valid conclusion. A good conclusion requires justification on the reasons why you think what you do.
For Theme E questions, you must refer back to your Citizenship Action. You are not writing an evaluation of your action, but you will be asked about the concepts linked to it (eg how democratic were you in choosing your action) and the skills required for a successful action (eg is flexibility more important than good communication).
