GCSE Art & Design: FINE ART & GCSE Art & Design: PHOTOGRAPHY
Component 2: Exam Project
This final project is worth 40% of the total marks for this qualification.
Learners have been given their starting points paper from AQA.
Learners have about 12 weeks to plan and prepare for a 10 hour exam in April. This exam will take place over 2 full days in school. Learners will be off timetable and will miss their normal lessons. They will be expected to catch up on any missed work.
RESEARCH AND PRESENT INFORMATION about relevant artists / photographers that will inspire you to produce interesting, creative and personal work related to your chosen starting point. For each artist produce AT LEAST ONE high quality COPY of a piece of work in any media. Produce AT LEAST ONE INTERPRETATION/VERSION of the artists’ work. Explain in writing why you chose that artist and how the work has inspired you.
Explore AT LEAST 3 IDEAS or VARIATIONS of an idea. Experiment with at least 3 different media to see which one is the most effective for your ideas. Plan your final piece of work through sketching and writing. Think about different colourways and different arrangements.
Record and present your ideas and work either in sketchbooks or on loose paper that can then be presented on large loose paper or card. Write your thoughts down about your thinking process, opinions and judgements about your work.
RESPOND to your chosen starting point in a consistent, organised and thorough manner. Not all drawings and pieces of work need to be completed to a perfect standard. However, you must be demonstrating your highest level of skills in all areas in a consistent way.
75% of the 40% of the marks for this project will be gained during the 12 weeks preparation period. The work you do during the 10 hours exam can add up to another 25% of that 40%. You must work hard and consistently over the next 12 weeks to gain as many marks as possible before the actual 10 hour exam.
For those learners that are studying GCSE Photography the same criteria apply in order to complete this final project successfully.
The key difference however is the TAKING of ENOUGH PHOTOGRAPHS for each series of ideas that are inspired by chosen photographers.
Learners must take at least 20 photographs for each photographer they are working from. Learners have been advised to explore and respond to at least 4 different photographers to inspire them. So during the preparation period learners should have at least 80 photographs presented in their Component 2 portfolio before the 10 hour exam. Learners may then also add another 20+ photos to their collection in time to use during the 10 hour exam.
