Canvas is the "learning management system" that teachers use to post assignments, announcements, and materials for their courses. Students can also use Canvas to submit much of their work to be evaluated.
To access Canvas:
Students access Canvas via Clever (https://clever.com/in/icsd/).
As a parent or caregiver, the email you have registered with the school district is already linked to Canvas; please do not make a new account! Your existing account allows you to be linked to your student's Canvas account. Navigate directly to https://icsdk12.instructure.com/login/canvas and login with a username and password. The username is your full e-mail address as registered with SchoolTool, or another e-mail address if you have set up your own account in the past. If you do not know your password or have not set one, you can click "Forgot Password" and you will be able to send yourself an e-mail to set or reset it. Please feel free to contact Natty Simson for any assistance needed with logging into Canvas (nathaniel.simson@icsd.k12.ny.us).
Each class your student has should have a Canvas "course card" - please feel free to log in and explore your student's classes. You may want to explore the "grades" tab and take note of anything missing. (Quick reminder that teachers typically use "grades" in this sense to track an assignment being turned in, not in giving a grade to the work. Also, it's good to know that some teachers require handed-in, paper submission.)
Instructions on how to adjust notifications: Click Account (at left), then Notifications. Change any notification settings you want by clicking in the right-hand column (immediate, daily, weekly, off). You can also customize notifications for individual courses by choosing the course under Settings For at the top. Caregivers can also turn on "Show name of observed students in notifications" if desired (e.g. multiple students).
Caregiver tip! Notifications can provide helpful info for caregivers. If you feel you are getting too many notifications from Canvas, we recommend switching your notifications to either a daily or weekly digest, rather than turning them off.
