"I chose this painting due to seeing it in the Cincinnati Art Museum a lot when I visit, and it sticking out due to the interesting background and subjects’ shimmer effect. I think the golden glow of the light and knowing a spot with a similar-looking background are what drew me in to recreating this painting specifically. I wanted to go for a vibe where the subjects seem imposing and “above” the viewer, as the painting is very large and above the viewers in person, which feels somewhat intimidating. I wanted my subjects to act as if they were posing for a painting for hours on end, feeling stoic." - quote from assignment
